I finally made a solid decision on the Mission Maxi and I’m so happy with the results. I was feeling like I needed a quick project to get my mind off the polka dot dress. I’m usually a one project at a time kind of girl, but I will plan and possibly muslin my butt off. I really don’t know why I just can’t finish the last few stitches. Ok it’s more than a few its the whole bottom hem that’s left. You don’t know how tempted I am to just stitch witchery that bad boy, but I promised myself that I would take my time and make quality stuff. Anyway back to what your here for! LOL
It’s size 12 at the neck, a 14 on the sides, and a 16 from the waist down.
It’s a really easy dress! The part that gave me the most trouble was the little 1″ binding in my slinky material. Probably would not have been as fussy in a stable knit.
The Low Down:
I got 5 yards of this lovely slinky four way stretch knit for $28. I didn’t cut it on the usual grain so I could get the patten to look that way. I don’t know what to call it since I suck at sewing terminology. Just know it was not folded salvage to salvage. I was able to make this dress out of the 60″ width which used up less fabric then usual. I would estimate my cost around $8.50.
I can definitely say a person may want to raise the neckline a bit on this one. I did not and it doesn’t look like it needs it in the pictures, but the girls are not corralled into their usual over the shoulder boulder holder. When I do have one on it is cleavage-a-plenty.
A soft free flowing maxi dress sewing pattern with plenty of options to choose from: tank top maxi, halter top maxi, and godet back maxi. I made the tank top maxi
2-18 I made a 12 at the neck a 14 at the sides, and a 16 from the waist down.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes! I honestly did not know how the binding was going to turn out as I was following the directions but I just did everything she said and it turned out fine.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love how RTW the dress looks. Nobody believed me when I said I made it! No dislikes.
A slinky polyester jersey that gave me a fit trying to cut out the small binding stripes.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None other than my grading sizes. I do think the average person may want to bring the neckline up at least an inch. The straps are very narrow, but to me that is apart of it’s RTW charm.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Of course!! Of course
A great maxi dress. I have the McCalls one but have yet to make it up, however I have a feeling that this one is still going to be my favorite maxi dress pattern.
Enjoy your Sunday folks!
